Governors Don't Agree With Proposed Tax Hike For Road Repairs
DENVER (CBS4) – Transportation and road repairs were one of the many topics discussed during the nation's Governors Meeting with President Obama.
During a closed-door meeting the president proposed a corporate tax hike to help pay for the work.
Governors, including Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper, worry that it's not a good long-term solution.
"He was clear that with more fuel efficient vehicles we're going to have less money for our roads and bridges. Even if we do get a one-time bonus from corporate tax reform, we're going to have to address that shortage ongoing in different ways as well," said Hickenlooper.
Hickenlooper is the vice chair of the National Governor's Association. His comments on transportation come amid the controversial plan to privatize Highway 36 to help fund construction and maintenance.
