Gov. Hickenlooper Signs Lower College Tuition Cap

DENVER (AP) - A $100 million cash infusion to Colorado's public colleges and universities was signed into law Thursday by Gov. John Hickenlooper, along with lower tuition hike caps.

The new law lowers maximum annual tuition hikes from 9 percent to 6 percent. The bill also adds about $100 million to higher education funding. Public colleges saw deep budget cuts during the recent recession.

Forty percent of the additional funding will be used to augment scholarships for needy students.
