Gov. Hickenlooper Honored For Foster Care Leadership

DENVER (CBS4)- Gov. John Hickenlooper was honored on Tuesday for his work with children in foster care.

Hickenlooper was honored to help raise awareness about foster care and the important role it plays in the community. May is National Foster Care month.

During a ceremony at the state Capitol, Hickenlooper received the Warren and Mary Alice Babineaux Award for his leadership on behalf of children in foster care in Colorado.

Hickenlooper teamed up with the National Council for Adoption to raise awareness for children who need homes.

Hickenlooper said the real heroes are parents, "The award really belongs to the 2,000 foster parents across Colorado, that are actually living this dream and making sure that kids are in a safe, supportive household."

There are 251 children who are in need of adoption in Colorado right now.
