Goose Gossage Promotes Hall Of Fame Coin In Denver

DENVER (CBS4/AP) - "Goose" Gossage was in Denver Tuesday to help promote the National Baseball Hall of Fame's new commemorative coin.

The Hall of Fame pitcher visited the Denver Mint, where the half-dollar coin is being produced. The limited edition coin celebrates the 75th anniversary of the Hall of Fame, with some of the proceeds going to support its operations in Cooperstown, New York.

"The National Baseball Hall of Fame is a nonprofit organization … so this is going to directly enhance the Hall of Fame," Gossage told CBS4. "Some of this money will go to the Hall of Fame … it's an amazing place in itself."

Gossage was born and still resides in Colorado Springs. He played for nine teams during his 22-year career, including the 1978 world champion New York Yankees.

CBS4 caught up with Gossage during the tour and asked him if he thinks the Rockies are for real this year.

"You know baseball is a marathon so I hope that they can sustain it and we'll see come September, we'll see that hopefully they'll be in that race, and I think they will be," Gossage said. "They've got a nucleus of a very good ball club."
