'Good Grammar' Bandit Suspected In 7 Bank Robberies
DENVER (CBS4)- Investigators believe the man dubbed the "Good Grammar Bandit" has struck seven banks in recent months. He earned the nickname because of the typed and grammatically-correct demand notes used during the robberies.
Police in Denver are working with the FBI in tracking down the suspect.
The interesting fact about this suspect is that he presents the typed demand note with proper spelling, grammar and punctuation to the teller, gets the money and then runs away on foot.
"Well-spelled, punctuated and laid out. Normally we get poor, scribble-scratch on the back of a deposit slip," said FBI spokesman Dave Joly.
He is believed to have robbed seven banks starting in April when he struck four North Metro banks in six days.
Then he took a hiatus until early July when the grammatically-correct notes reappeared.
"I don't know if he was in school and the summer session must have caught up with him and he needs more funds," said Joly.
He is described as a black male in his 30s, 5-foot-7 to 5-foot-9 with a slender build.
Investigators are not sure whether he carries a weapon.
"It's unknown. He wears big enough baggy clothing where we probably couldn't see it, and because he's been so brazen and committed seven in a row within a very short period of time we definitely fear for the public's safety," said Joly.
Investigators said while his methods may be impressive, his haul is not.
"He's getting what's in the drawer, really not worth 20 years for each bank robbery," said Joly.
The "Good Grammar Bandit" is believed to be responsible for the following bank robberies:
