Fundraiser In Aurora Benefits Ebola Victims In West Africa
AURORA, Colo. (CBS4) - A community and church group in Aurora is collecting donations and supplies to help Liberians afflicted with Ebola.
At Aurora's South Middle School on Saturday, members of the area's Liberian community attended a fundraiser concert to help.
One woman said he has lost six family members to Ebola.
"They actually thought they were just sick. But as time went, people started telling them it was Ebola," Elydia Sehkar said. "So much worry, especially for my baby. There was no space for them, so they had to die in a home."
Organizers said the need for medical supplies is the greatest: "Doctors are dying because they don't have the proper attire to attend to someone. You have nurses that are taking care of their own family members in the house, wearing trash bags," Gormeh Kolleh said.
In addition to money donations, Clorox, hand sanitizers, examination gowns and masks are needed, she said.
"It might be a little bit that we can raise and send back home," Kolleh said.
Donations can be dropped off at Christ Vision International Ministries, located at 262 Havana St. in Aurora.
The church said 100 percent of the donations will be sent to Liberia.
More than 10,000 have been infected with Ebola during the current outbreak, and nearly half have died.
