Fort Carson Soldiers Could Be Sent To Liberia
FORT CARSON, Colo. (AP) — Some of the 1,400 soldiers being sent to Liberia to help fight the spread of Ebola could come from Colorado's Fort Carson.
In announcing the move Tuesday, Defense Department spokesman Rear Adm. John Kirby said about half of the soldiers would come from the 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, and the rest would come from engineering units across the country. They would deploy in late October.
Fort Carson released a statement saying that officials have been notified about a possible troop deployment as part of the mission but didn't release any details.
However, U.S. Rep. Doug Lamborn and Sen. Michael Bennet say about 160 engineers from Fort Carson will be sent to build Ebola treatment units to house patients and health care workers.
