Five Bodies Discovered Inside Denver Home Destroyed By Fire
DENVER (CBS4) - Firefighters found five bodies inside a northeast Denver home after they extinguished a fire that heavily damaged the residence before dawn on Wednesday. Denver Police Investigations Division Chief Joe Montoya said there was evidence of possible arson.
The fire was reported at 2:40 a.m. at 5302 North Truckee Street, which is in the Gateway-Green Valley Ranch neighborhood.
Denver Fire Department spokesman Capt. Greg Pixley called the fire "devastating."
"Initial reports indicate that there was one toddler, one child and three adults that succumbed to the effects of the fire," Pixley said.
A friend of the family who died told CBS4 that they were from Senegal. Neighbors and friends said that Djibril Diol, his wife and daughter were killed in the fire.
"I can't really talk right now because I am heartbroken, but all I can say is he was a good person, he was supportive, he was a good brother of mine," said Moussa Diol.
"Our initial reports is that the individuals were on the first floor."
Pixley said three people were able to escape from the fire by jumping from an upper floor. They were all injured, but so far it's not clear how badly.
