Roof Fire Forces Closure Of Colorado Springs Airport
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (CBS4) - There will be no flights in or out of the airport in Colorado Springs on Tuesday after a fire broke out on the roof. The airport will reopen on Wednesday morning.
The inside of the terminal is damaged after firefighters had to get at the fire from the inside.
The fire started at approximately 11:30 p.m. on Monday on the west side of the airport. It took four hours to contain.
No one was hurt. The entire airport was evacuated while some arriving passengers were stuck on arriving planes.
At least three inbound planes waited on the runway and ended up de-planing at another area of the airport.
#COSfire update: COS has been cleared to begin assessment of fire, smoke, & water damage. The terminal remains closed. Please contact your airline or rental car company directly.

COS Airfield, GA, and all military operations remain open.
"I was just downstairs working at Avis Budget all the sudden some guy runs downstairs screaming that there's a fire. I thought it was a joke at first and the next thing you know fire alarms go off so we go outside to check what's actually going on. Smoke coming outside the building," said Avis employee Tony Frost.
Firefighters could see flames shooting from the roof before they arrived.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. Airport officials say the airport will reopen Wednesday morning. There are 56 flights in and out of the airport daily.
