Finalists Announced In James Beard Restaurant & Chef Awards

DENVER (CBS4) - The finalists for the 2016 James Beard Foundation Restaurant and Chef awards have been announced.

Semifinalists were named in February, but the list has been narrowed to nominees for the nearly 60 categories.

While New York and Chicago house many restaurants and chefs who have made the list, there are a few Colorado standouts.

Under the category Best Chef of the Southwest, Alex Seidel of Denver's Fruition Restaurant on 6th Avenue has made the finalists.

For the category Outstanding Restaurant, Frasca Food & Wine in Boulder has also made the finals.

Austin and San Francisco are other cities frequently named in the list of finalists. See the full list of finalists here.

Awards will also be given for culinary books, journalism, broadcast media, and restaurant design.

Established in 1990, the James Beard Awards recognize culinary professionals for excellence and achievement in their fields and further the Foundation's mission to celebrate, nurture, and honor America's diverse culinary heritage through programs that educate and inspire.

Winners of the restaurant and chef awards will be announced May 2.
