Surveillance Video Shows Bear Trying To Get Trash Can Open

EVERGREEN, Colo. (CBS4) - One homeowner in Evergreen stopped a hungry bear's plans thanks to locks on their trash can. Surveillance video from CBS4 YouReporter Mike Odgren shows the bear wheeling the trash can outside the home.

The bear tosses it around, trying to get the lid to open. It was all for not because of the lock.

"We figured living up here in the foothills, we are in the wildlife's territory. This is their home. And the last thing we want is a problem with bears, and have the bears getting in our trash and becoming a nuisance and something bad happening to the bears because of it," said Odgren.

Parks and Wildlife officials say the family did the right thing with their trash. They encourage people to take anything scented out of their vehicles as bears are even attracted to things like hand sanitizer and lip balm.
