Equine Art Show Benefits Horse Rescue Groups

PARKER, Colo. (CBS4) - An art show and exhibit in Parker is raising money for horse rescue efforts by two nonprofit organizations.

The art show at the Parker Arts Center located at 20000 Pikes Peak Avenue, Parker, opened Sept. 15 and runs through Oct. 30. It raises funds for Drifters Hearts of Hope in Parker and the Horse Protection League in Arvada.

"Art for Horses is a win, win, win collaboration," said Vicki Christensen, the show founder.

"Most people don't know that there are hundreds of thousands of unwanted horses in our country, Drifters Hearts of Hope and the Horse Protection League work hard to save such horses and rehabilitate them into loving, forever homes" said Jacqui Avis of Drifters Hearts of Hope.

The organization helps children and teens with special needs to rescue horses. In the last year, the group reports saving 75 horses. The children and teens with special needs support the horses by making and selling heart-shaped horse cookies in Parker area feed stores.

The art show features equine-themed paintings, drawings, sculpture and photography by more than 60 artists. A percentage of the art sales go to the two charities.

Approximately 80 pieces of art are on display and for sale and prices range from $200 Up to $24,000.
