Elway's No. 1 Goal: Keep Broncos Defense As In Tact As Possible

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (CBS4) - The Broncos held their end-of-the-season news conference Tuesday morning, only a few hours before a parade that's set to be held in Denver for the Super Bowl Champions.

CEO Joe Ellis, General Manager John Elway and Coach Gary Kubiak all smiled as they posed with the Lombardi Trophy. They also gave high praise to Denver's defensive players for their performance in Super Bowl 50.

Elway said they rode their defense all the way to the Championship. While it's not set in stone, Elway also said there is the argument to be made that this is one of the best defenses ever in the NFL.

The question of Peyton Manning's retirement came up, and to that Elway said, "there is no deadline."

"It's all up to him," Elway said.

Looking toward the future, Elway said he is already looking into the free agency situation for the team and says his No. 1 goal is to keep the defense as in tact as possible.

Kubiak said the loss to the Steelers in Week 15 was a turning point for the team.

"I told the guys you've got to be all in, all the time, not just some of the time," he said.
