Elk Attacks Visitor In Estes Park
ESTES PARK, Colo. (CBS4) - A visitor in Estes Park was attacked by an elk on Sunday evening after he apparently got too close to the animals.
The man was attacked on off Highway 34 near the Estes Park Visitor's Center about 6:30 p.m. Sunday.
The man was injured and rushed to the hospital with bleeding on his back.
He was not from Estes Park and believed to be a visitor to the area, possibly unfamiliar with wildlife.
CBS4 YouReporter Marci Bowden took a picture of the man near the elk shortly before the attack. She said that people were yelling at the man to get away from the animals.
Wildlife experts warn that elk are overly aggressive this time of year and that people should stay away from herds in case a bull elk attacks.
A bull elk attacked a Jefferson County Sheriff's deputy's patrol car when he saw it as a threat. The deputy was not hurt.
