EB 6th Ave. Traffic Shift Could Impact Drivers

LAKEWOOD, Colo. (CBS4)- Crews worked through the night Wednesday to prepare to divert traffic along a busy roadway in Lakewood on Thursday morning in order to begin construction on a new bridge.

Eastbound traffic along 6th Avenue will be diverted onto a temporary bridge located south of 6th Avenue as it goes over Garrison.

Traffic will begin using those rerouted lanes at 5 a.m. Thursday. Westbound traffic patterns will not change until early next week. That traffic will shift onto the existing eastbound lanes.

Once the new alignment is in place, crews will start demolishing the northern lanes of the bridge as part of a bigger project to replace the bridge.

The Colorado Department of Transportation plans to keep three lanes in each direction open during all peak times. CDOT also warns drivers to expect lane closures during intermittent work at night.

All of the businesses in the area will be open and accessible through the entire project.
