Durango Teens Headed To NYC For National Theatre Awards

DENVER (CBS4) - Emma Buchanan and Evatt Salinger have been doing press interviews and special appearances in Denver since winning the Bobby G Awards for Outstanding Lead Actress and Outstanding Lead Actor on May 28.

The teens are from Durango and won for their performances in "Les Miserables". Buchanan played Eponine and Salinger was Jean Valjean.

"The wonderful thing that I found that I loved about her is that she found what she was looking for, but not in the way that she wanted it, and I think that's kind of how life works," Buchanan told CBS4.

"His main role in the show…his theme is about compassion. And I learned where that resided in me and the connection you make with others because of your compassion," Salinger said.

The teens performed a medley of songs from "Les Miserables" at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts during the awards ceremony. Now they're taking their show on the road. Buchanan and Salinger are headed to New York City to take part in the National High School Musical Theater Awards and workshops. The experience includes a Broadway debut.

"During the week, we rehearse and workshop it with Broadway professionals, actors and directors and pretty cool people that we get to meet and work with," Salinger told CBS4.
