Drivers Urged To Plan Early For New Traffic Pattern On 6th Avenue

DENVER (CBS4)- Drivers along 6th Avenue traveled a new route on Monday morning near Federal Boulevard. Crews shifted eastbound lanes to what is now the final alignment.

For nearly two years, 6th Avenue has been a busy construction zone realigning lanes for eastbound access to Interstate 25. The exit to either north or southbound I-25 is now a dedicated lane.

The idea behind the redesign is to cut down on congestion during busy commute times by reducing the number of drivers who swerve over to into the exit lanes near Federal Boulevard.

Drivers have been advised to look for the dedicated lanes that lead to the I-25 at Perry Street.

This is the last major shift of eastbound U.S. 6 traffic. The realignment and new bridges over 6th Avenue project had a price tag of $98 million.
