Draft Pick Michael Schofield Had An Adventurous Flight To Denver

DENVER (CBS4) - A huge part of the Broncos' success since Peyton Manning came to town has been getting him the proper protection, and the Broncos used their third round draft pick to do just that by selecting Michael Schofield, who can play all over the offensive line.

Schofield, out of the University of Michigan, said he was trying to prove that he could play multiple positions on the offensive line during the draft process.

"I'm not just a tackle, I can play guard. At the Senior Bowl I played almost strictly just guard, trying to show that," Schofield said. "In my red shirt sophomore year I actually started at guard, but I've played tackle my whole life, pretty much since sophomore year in high school.

"I've always been a tackle, so I'd say I'm more comfortable at tackle, but I could play guard if needed to be."

Schofield will have the job of protecting one of the greatest assets in the NFL and quite possibly one of the most important people to the state of Colorado.

"That's pretty exciting. I got a text from (Manning) last night, and that was just a surreal experience to get a text … I mean it's going to be awesome to play with him," Schofield said.

He said he's very excited to be playing for a team that went to the Super Bowl last year and by all expectations should be going back again next season.

"Since you start playing football at a young age your goal is to get to that Super Bowl …. the Broncos, they made it last year, I mean definitely we have a solid shot of going next year."

After finding out he was picked by the Broncos, Schofield said he had an interesting flight coming to Denver.

"Everything was going smooth until we were just about to land. You felt the wind starting picking up, the plane starting shaking everything. We actually started to land … we were about to land and we took off again and circled back around and were about to do another landing … started going down again, it started down-pouring on us, the wind, the plane started shaking, the guy next to me starts throwing up."

The plane ended up flying to Colorado Springs and waited for the storm to pass before returning to Denver.
