Dog stuck under car hood rescued in Aurora

Firefighters in Aurora rescued a dog stuck under a car hood on Thursday morning. Crews from Aurora Station 6 rushed to the vehicle where the little guy was stuck. 

Firefighters believe the dog wanted to get warm by climbing into in the engine compartment but it's unclear how long he was under there.

"There was a Chihuahua named Thor who was loose for whatever reason. He's running down Dartmouth and at least one driver might have been more than one person willing to help out, started following him and when she parked her car right around where he was... she didn't know where he went," said Aurora Fire Rescue Cpt. Tyler Szabo. "Somebody nearby another bystander has noticed that he jumped up under her car into the undercarriage."     

Crews lifted the vehicle with airbags to reach the dog and removed some front suspension components to remove the dog without injuring him. 

"For this dog to be kind of willingly got in there and he had no injuries which is nice to be able to free him and not worry about him at all," said Szabo.

Aurora Animal Services traced the dog's microchip and brought the dog home. 

Aurora firefighters say this is a good reminder to keep your pets indoors this weekend during Colorado's cold snap. 

"If it's too cold for you the human outside in your coat it's probably too cold for the pet as well," said Szabo.
