Despite Nasty-Looking Facial Injury, Gabriel Landeskog Cleared To Play
DENVER (CBS4) - Colorado Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog isn't expected to miss any time after taking a puck to the face in the Avs' 6-3 win over the San Jose Sharks on Monday.
Pictures and video show Landeskog with what looks like painful swelling and a black and bloody eye. He sustained it in the second period after a slap shot from Sharks defenseman Dylan DeMelo.
DeMelo immediately went over the Landeskog and helped him off the ice and get towards Avs head athletic trainer Matt Sokolowski for treatment.
There was no fracture and Landeskog returned to the game in the third period.
On Wednesday in a locker room interview he said the swelling kind of bothers him but he can still see.
"I felt good out there … I think it was just a distraction for my line mates," Landeskog said.
He said he will wear a larger visor for his own safety the next couple of games.
"It looks scarier than it really is," he said.
It was the second time Landeskog has been injured playing San Jose in the Shark Tank. He suffered a head injury on Jan. 26, 2013.
