Homeowner Shoots, Kills 1 Of 2 Suspects Who Responded To Craigslist Ad
LITTLETON, Colo. (CBS4) - Deputies are investigating a fatal shooting that took place at a home in Littleton Sunday morning.
According to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, the shooting occurred at a residence in the 5400 block of South Taft Court just after 9 a.m. and involved a homeowner and two other males.
Two men went to the home after responding to a Craigslist ad, according to the sheriff's office. The men produced a firearm and tied up the homeowner and took the keys to his Ford SUV.
"At some point, the two males tied the homeowner up," Jacki Kelley with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office said.
The two men then split up. One man attempted to flee in the homeowner's SUV and the other in a gold or yellow Mustang that they arrived in.
The homeowner managed to get himself free and went outside to confront the suspects with a handgun and shot the man driving away in his SUV, which ended up in a neighbor's yard a few houses down the road. The suspect was taken to St. Anthony Hospital where he died.
Neighbor Aaron Andersen heard the gunshots.
"It shows it can happen anywhere. You can think you live in a real comfortable neighborhood, but it can definitely happen anywhere," Andersen said. "It sounded like a round of about five gunshots."
The homeowner and his wife, who was also home at the time, weren't hurt and were interviewed by police. It's not clear if the homeowner will be charged for the shooting.
Deputies are now searching for the gold or yellow 1990s Mustang possibly being driven by a Hispanic man in his 40s. The car could have bullet holes in it.
Anyone who spots the Mustang is asked to call 911.
