Denver Voters Approve Measures To Help Denver Public Schools
DENVER (CBS4) - Voters in the city of Denver have approved two measures that will help Denver Public Schools.
Denver's 3A measure increases school taxes by $56 million to expand programs. It passed by more than 65 percent of the vote (as of 8:10 p.m. Tuesday).
3B sells bonds to raise $572 million for infrastructure improvements. It passed by 65 percent of the vote (as of 8:10 p.m. Tuesday).
DPS Superintendent Tom Boasberg told CBS4 he is thrilled by the outcome. He says it will mean an additional $50 million will become available annually for the schools.
"What this really means is opening windows of opportunities for our kids by providing our kids and our teachers support that they need to help our kids grow," Boasberg said.
The money will enable DPS to hire "hundreds of teachers" and renovate and modernize school buildings with better cooling system improvements and improved technology.
"It's really giving our kids the learning environment that we all want to see, that they deserve," he said.
