Police: Carjacking Suspect Stole Cop Car Before Being Shot By Denver Police
DENVER (CBS4) - Denver police say they are investigating an officer-involved shooting near 8th Avenue and Zuni Street. The shooting reportedly happened Monday afternoon.
Police Chief Paul Pazen says the suspect first tried to carjack someone near 6th Avenue and Santa Fe Drive. The suspect was not successful. The victim is reportedly okay.
Police found the suspect nearby, and started chasing him on foot.
Pazen says the suspect "circled back" and got inside the officer's vehicle and drove away.
Officers later found the suspect in the police vehicle near 8th and Zuni where they say he was holding a police rifle.
Police shot at the suspect. He died at the scene.
The public should expect a large police scene and should avoid the area.
Pazen asks for any witnesses near 6th Avenue and Federal Boulevard who saw the suspect point the rifle at the public to come forward.

Police closed 8th Ave. between Zuni St. to Wyndott. Drivers cannot travel south on Zuni St.
