Denver Man Who Shot Cocaine Dealer To Death Gets Life In Prison
CENTENNIAL, Colo. (AP) - A Denver man who fatally shot a cocaine dealer during a robbery attempt in Aurora has been sentenced to life in prison without parole.
The Arapahoe County District Attorney's Office announced Monday that 43-year-old Kenneth Mackey was sentenced for the Nov. 26, 2013, death of 65-year-old Martel Thomas. Mackey was convicted in April of several charges, the most serious of which include first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder.
Prosecutors say Mackey and 46-year-old Gregory McCoy broke into Thomas' home. Thomas, armed with a revolver, fatally shot McCoy but was shot three times himself.
Investigators say Mackey then shot a female companion of Thomas before stealing $80, cocaine and a car. The woman survived and called 911.
