Denver Art Museum Acquires 22 Impressionist Masterworks
DENVER (CBS4) - The Denver Art Museum is getting the biggest donation in its history.
A total of 22 French impressionist masterworks paintings are being acquired through a bequest from Museum Chairman Emeritus Frederic C. Hamilton.
Hamilton has been a major supporter of arts and culture in Denver, in particular to the Denver Art Museum. He has already pledged more than $26 million in direct financial support.
"It's a pivotal moment in the history of the museum. What I love about American museums, they are so great because they have people in the community that cared about the museum, that made sure that their works could be shared with others, could be shared with the community," Denver Art Museum Director Christoph Heinrich said.
Among the artwork to be acquired are paintings by Vincent van Gogh and Paul Cezanne, as well as several pieces by Claude Monet.
