Police Search For 2 Suspects In Deadly Shooting At Light Rail Station

SHERIDAN, Colo. (CBS4) - Police in Denver are searching for two suspects in a deadly shooting at a light rail station. The suspects are considered armed and dangerous and they are calling the case a top priority.

The shooting took place at approximately 1 a.m. Tuesday at the RTD station located at 12th Place and Sheridan Boulevard.

"I've ridden this light rail since it opened, so it's pretty out there that there was someone that was killed here," said light rail rider Ryan Martin.

Police say the two men pictured in surveillance footage, wearing masks and backpacks, approached the victim and robbed him at gunpoint.

One of the two suspects then shot and killed the victim. Both suspects ran away from the station.

The next train wasn't scheduled to arrive for 20 minutes when the crime occurred.

RTD shut down train service for several hours afterwards while an investigation took place.

The victim was a male but his identity hasn't been released.

A clerk at the gas station nearby, on the corner of 10th and Sheridan, told CBS4 he heard four gunshots go off.

"I was out here changing the trash bags in the cans and heard a gunshot," said Ron Pruitt, who works for Sinclair. "The first shot ricocheted off metal and I was standing next to a metal post so I stood straight up and there were three more shots that followed right after."

One person was arrested soon after police arrived, but officers said later that person wound up having nothing to do with the shooting. A warrant was out for his arrest, however, so police took him into custody.

Police said this shooting is not connected to the Jan. 31 shooting death of an RTD security officer near Union Station.
