Eastbound Lanes Of I-70 Near Idaho Springs Reopen After Closure Due To Deadly Crash

IDAHO SPRINGS, Colo. (CBS4)- Eastbound lanes of Interstate 70 were closed for about three hours on Wednesday night due to a deadly crash involving a semi and another vehicle. All lanes reopened to traffic after 9 p.m.

The crash happened about 5:36 p.m. between Exit 240 CO 103 and Exit 241 Idaho Springs.

Idaho Springs police said that the crash happened when a Jeep Compass Trailhawk struck a semi that was broken down on the shoulder of the roadway. A 33-year-old female passenger was found to be deceased when emergency responders arrived. A 34-year-old male was rushed to a Denver area hospital with injuries. The semi driver was in the cab during the crash and was not injured.

The accident remains under investigation.
