Mom Killed, Child Seriously Injured In Multi-Vehicle Crash

LAKEWOOD, Colo. (CBS4)- A mother was killed and her child seriously injured in a five-vehicle crash in Lakewood Monday morning.

Police say a four vehicles were stopped at a red light in the right hand lane at Alameda Avenue and Oak Street, near the Federal Center.

Investigators say the driver of the pickup truck slammed into a minivan and caused a chain reaction with the remaining vehicles.

The woman killed was the driver of the minivan. Her child was seriously injured and transported by helicopter to Children's Hospital in Aurora.

The driver of the pickup was also taken to a local hospital where he was treated and released.

It is unclear what charges the driver of the truck may face, but detectives are still questioning him.

The driver killed has not been identified.

Investigators say there was no apparent signs of drugs or alcohol involved, but they will wait for test results.
