Crews Install LED Lights On 16th Street Mall

DENVER (CBS4)- Crews began installing more lights along the 16th Street Mall on Monday.

The lights are LED which are brighter than the existing lights.

Crews will install 187 new street lights along the mall between Market and Broadway. It's part of a series of increased security measures to make the area more welcoming to tourists and other visitors.

Several violent attacks, some of them in the daylight, have discouraged some visitors from walking along the mall to restaurants or other shops.

The Downtown Denver Partnership has hired private security guards to join Denver police officers on patrol along the 16th Street Mall.
