Colorado Springs School District Puts Limits On Social Media
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (CBS4)- A school district is putting new limits on social media and how teachers and students use it to communicate.
District 20 in Colorado Springs has a policy in place that bans staff from interacting with students on their personal social media accounts like Facebook and Twitter.
As for email, texting and instant messaging, those forms of communication are not allowed between students and teachers unless its school-related.
Staffers who violate the policy could lose their jobs.
Most parents support the new rule.
"I think there should be a professional relationship. It blurs the line a little bit when they can be friends on Facebook," said one parent.
"Teacher-student relationships should be just at school, other than sports or maybe a sporting event," said another parent.
The district is allowing teachers to create classroom pages on Facebook where they can communicate with students about school-related topics.
