Colorado Growers, Products Celebrated At State Capitol
DENVER (CBS4)- Colorado agriculture was celebrated on Wednesday at the state Capitol for Ag Day, part of National Ag Week.
Hickenlooper, along with other state officials, lawmakers, ranchers and agriculture representatives, celebrated locally-grown products. There was also a cook off competition featuring locally-grown foods.
"Our state's agriculture industry and all that it does for Colorado's people is certainly worth celebrating … not only on March 16, but year-round," Hickenlooper said in a statement. "Colorado's $40 billion ag industry is a top two or three contributor to our state's economy each year, employs thousands of Colorado residents, has been instrumental in leading us out of the recent recession, and most importantly, helps feed our state's 5 million-plus people. It's my hope you will join me and hundreds of others at Ag Day at the Capitol and take part in this well-deserved 'thank you' to our producers."
It was also Liberty Day at the Capitol. Fifth-graders headed to the state House to read the preamble to the U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights. After that the kids quizzed legislators on their knowledge of the constitution. In all about 100 fifth-graders from Northglenn, Craig, and Akron participated.
