Colorado Climber Attempting Everest Summit Safe After Earthquake

DENVER (CBS4)- A Colorado man attempting to summit Mount Everest is documenting what happened in Nepal after a massive earthquake via Twitter.

Jim Davidson from Fort Collins is attempting to summit Mount Everest. He and his team are safe and are staying put at Everest Camp 1.

Davidson was tweeting updates about the situation on Saturday after the earthquake.

Davidson is with a group of climbers that include others from Colorado.

The 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck on Saturday. Nearly 1,200 have been killed in Nepal, with the toll expected to rise.

The earthquake is the worst tremor to hit the poor South Asian nation in over 80 years. It collapsed modern houses and centuries-old temples, and triggered a landslide on the slopes of Mount Everest.
