CDOT Crews Replacing Tunnel Lining In Idaho Springs

IDAHO SPRINGS, Colo. (CBS4) - CDOT crews have finished blasting work to widen the westbound tunnel near Idaho Springs that will help alleviate traffic headaches on Interstate 70.

The work is part of the next phase of the twin tunnels expansion project.

This week, crews are replacing the tunnel lining.

"It's been a really good project and I think people will be happy. We're making the roadway safer, and I think you'll be able to get up the mountains a little bit faster, too," a spokesman told CBS4.

Crews will be blasting on the eastbound side through October. The project should be complete by the end of the year.
