Car Scam Targeting Military Families
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (CBS4) – A family in Colorado Springs lost $2,000 after falling victim to a scam targeting military families.
A woman claiming to be a sergeant in the Army said she was going to sell them a car for a low price.
She claimed it was part of a military auto buying program and requested the payment be made through a money-gram.
"You're kind of frustrated you feel embarrassed and stupid at the same time and you just kind of our disappointed because everybody wants that great deal," said victim Susan Lake.
When the buyer became suspicious she contacted the real military advantage program who confirmed it was all a scam.
They said it has been around since the beginning of the month and they have contacted Craigslist to make them aware.
