Campers Near Aspen Must Use Bear-Resistant Containers
ASPEN, Colo. (CBS4)- Campers near Aspen must use bear-resistant containers or face a hefty fine.
The White River National Forest has enacted an emergency order that requires all campers or overnight hikers to store food and garbage in hard-sided bear-resistant containers.
The U.S. Forest Service said there were 13 incidents last year involving bears that got into food that wasn't properly stored.
Rangers will be checking for compliance and could issue fines up to $5,000.
