Police search for driver believed to have caused fatal crash
Police are searching for a driver who ran from the scene of a fatal crash Sunday morning in southwest Aurora.
Debris was strewn in the street as officers placed evidence markers and crime scene tape around the intersection of South Havana Street and East Iliff Avenue. Lanes of traffic were closed in all directions until 1:20 p.m., about six hours after the crash occurred.
Aurora Police Department investigators believe a 2013 Hyundai Elantra ran a red light at the intersection immediately before the crash. The driver of the Hyundai ran from the scene. That person has not yet been positively identified or located, APD stated in a press release.
The 28-year-old male driver of a 2000 Honda Accord that was southbound on Havana was dead when officers arrived. His car was struck on its driver's side door. A white sheet was seen draped over the Accord's windshield.
The Arapahoe County Coroner's Office will release that driver's identity once family members have been notified of his passing.
