Boston Bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev Now In Custody In Supermax

FLORENCE, Colo. (CBS4) - Boston bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev is now in custody at the Supermax prison in Florence.

It's the most secure inmate facility in the country.

In May, a federal jury sentenced Tsarnaev to death for the bombings at the Boston Marathon. He was moved to Supermax from the United States Penitentiary in Florence.

Supermax was built 20 years ago. It is home to some of the nation's most notorious criminals, including Oklahoma City bomber Terry Nichols and unabomber Ted Kaczynski.

At some point Tsarnaev will likely be sent to the death row unit at the United States Penitentiary in Terre Haute, Indiana, where Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh was put to death and more than 50 other people are awaiting execution.

Tsarnaev could spend years or even decades in Terre Haute as his appeal makes its way through the court system.
