Bank Robber's Body, Money Pulled From Arkansas River
PUEBLO, Colo. (CBS4) - Authorities on Monday recovered the body of a suspected bank robber who jumped into the Arkansas River to avoid capture.
A large amount of cash -- the exact amount stolen from a Pueblo bank -- was found on the body of Jeffrey Cathcart.
After leading officers on a short chase from the bank to the river bank, police say Cathcart, 40, removed his shirt and shoes and taunted them prior to jumping. He didn't resurface.
The body was spotted Sunday night and crews searched until dark unable to locate it. Monday morning, crews found the body at a low point in the river not far from where Cathcart dove.
Police responded to reports of a robbery at the Security Service Federal Credit Union, located at 310 East Abriendo Ave., at approximately 2 p.m. Thursday.
The robber demanded money and left on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash. Police chased the suspect down a trail near the river and when officers closed in, the suspect jumped.
Cathcart was wanted on a parole violation and was suspected of robbing a grocery store last month.
