Bank Customer Calls Rash Of Robberies 'A Sign Of The Times'
DENVER (CBS4) - Denver metro area residents are reeling after four brazen bank robberies in the past week.
"Scary right? Not good, " said resident Javier Pechi.
Monday morning a man robbed a Denver Vectra Bank on Quebec Street. Surveillance video caught the man pointing a gun at the teller before fleeing on foot. That same day cameras inside the nearby TCF Bank caught the same man, apparently wearing a wig, casing the bank before leaving.
The suspect is described as a white male in his 30s, about 6 feet tall with a medium build. He has long brown hair, possibly a wig. He was wearing jeans, a baseball cap and a denim button shirt with a logo.
Vectra customer Leeland Horner told CBS4's Tom Mustin the recent robberies are a sign of the times.
"People are hurting for money because they don't have jobs,' said Horner. "Those are hard to find nowadays."
Last Tuesday another white male in his 30s robbed a Chase bank in Wheat Ridge, and then hit a Wheat Ridge Bank of the West on Friday. In both cases he escaped in a taxi cab.
Also on Friday three masked men robbed a Wheat Ridge Wells Fargo Bank at gunpoint and then fled in a stolen Jeep Cherokee. Those suspects are described as dark-skinned Hispanics, or light-skinned black males.
The FBI doesn't believe the cases are related, but agents say all suspects are armed and dangerous.
As the search for clues continues, Bryce Horner has a message for the elusive bandits.
"Get a job like the rest of us and become a working American."
