Suspicious death investigated as homicide, arrest made Saturday night

A fatal shooting Saturday morning in the 3000 block of North Peoria Street was being investigated as a homicide and late Saturday night, Aurora police's SWAT team and other special units said they arrested a 32-year-old man, who's now facing first-degree murder charges.

According to the department, officers responded to a report of a shooting at 6:45 a.m. and found a woman who died of an apparent gunshot wound. The victim, who was not immediately identified, was already dead when police arrived, police officials said.

Officers were investigating the death throughout the day, initially calling it a "suspicious death," but honed in on a suspect, 32-year-old Jeovany Gonzalez-Acuña. He was arrested Saturday night and is being held as the investigation continues.
