Amy Van Dyken-Rouen Makes Appearance At Rocky Mountain Showdown

DENVER (CBS4) - Friday night's Rocky Mountain Showdown featured some special alumni on the field during the coin toss.

Amy Van Dyken-Rouen took part in the ceremony before the start of the game at Sports Authority Field at Mile High between the CSU Rams and the CU Buffaloes. The former Coloradan and six-time Olympic gold medalist was a swimmer at Colorado State University. She proudly wore her CSU shirt and got to cheer her team on in their comeback 31-17 win (Full Story).

Her husband Tom Rouen, the former Broncos punter, wore his CU shirt.

Van Dyken has made headlines all summer. She was driving an ATV on June 6 near her Arizona home when it crashed. The 41-year-old wound up suffering injuries that left her partially paralyzed.

Right before she underwent surgery that could have killed her, Van Dyken said she remembers having to say her goodbyes to her husband.

Van Dyken's surgery was a success, and she was transferred by plane two weeks later to Colorado's Craig Hospital. Two months later she left the Englewood facility.
