Adams County Sheriff Sets Up Safe Zones For Craigslist Transactions

BRIGHTON, Colo. (CBS4)- The Adams County Sheriff's Office has set up safe zones for people to make Craigslist transactions.

"It's just a safe place. It's a police department," said Adams County Sgt. Aaron Pataluna. "There are people here all the time, there are cameras monitoring our lobbies."

There are three areas in Adams County that have been designated as safe zones. Those include the lobbies of Adams County facilities, with well-lit areas and security cameras.

One is at 72nd Avenue in Brighton, another at the sheriff's headquarters and the other at a detention facility.

"Please come into our lobbies and do your transactions if you make a purchase on Craigslist or any other online ad. We're making our lobbies available so they an come in and not invite strangers into their home or meet someone in an area they're not familiar with," said Pataluna.

No weapons or drug paraphernalia transactions are not allowed in the safe zones.

The creation of the safe zones comes after a Georgia couple tried to buy a car on Craigslist and wound up dead. Police said the man selling the car to the couple has been charged in their deaths.
