9-Year-Old Girl Killed By Car In Apartment Parking Lot

ESTES PARK, Colo. (CBS4) - A 9-year-old girl was killed Friday after being struck by an SUV in the parking lot of an apartment complex in Estes Park.

It happened just before 4:30 p.m., and responders attempted CPR upon arrival but the child was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver, 29-year-old Javier Ulises Hernandez-Solis, was a friend of the child's sister, Carla Fernandez Portillo, 26, who was a passenger in the car at the time.

Estes Park police said both have been cooperative during the investigation.

It is known that the girl was in the parking lot of the apartment building, where she lived, as the driver was exiting the complex. The circumstances are still unclear.

"An investigation is underway, but initially this appears to be a tragic accident," said Police Chief Wes Kufeld.
