Incident In Apartment Complex Leads To Shooting

DENVER (CBS4)-  Two people were injured in a shooting near George Washington High School in Denver and rushed to the hospital on Wednesday afternoon. Police believe the incident began about a mile away.

Denver police tweeted an update about the shooting soon after it happened.

The shooting happened near the intersection of Leetsdale and Jersey near a McDonald's restaurant.

Witnesses told CBS4 that a man in a sedan made a U-turn in the intersection before shooting at two people inside a Ford pick-up truck. Two people ran into the McDonald's for help.

"He [the shooter] gets out of his car, looks in there and these guys are already half way to McDonalds," said witness Jeff Stallings. "He just hops back into his sedan and drives off going back eastbound here. I look over and there's a girl right next to me, she's trembling in her car and I'm not going to lie, I'm shaking a little bit myself."

Two male victims were rushed to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. It was unclear whether they were shot or how they were injured.

Copter4 flew over the scene where police had blocked off the lanes of Leetsdale and the entrance to the McDonald's parking lot shortly after the shooting.

A pickup truck was in the middle of the street with its driver's side door open and the windows shot out. The truck also had visible bullet holes.

The witness told CBS4 that the sedan drove away. Investigators say the incident started about a mile away in an apartment complex at Quebec Street and South Parker Road, when the two victims were involved in a confrontation with a third man.

According to deputies, the suspect shot at the two men at the apartment complex. The men fled in their vehicle, the suspect chased them, and fired on them a second time at the intersection of Leetsdale and Jersey.

Authorities are looking for one suspect in the shooting. The suspect is described as a heavy-set Hispanic male, about 230 pounds. He is bald and wearing a bright green T-shirt. The vehicle is described as a hunter green sedan, possibly a 1990s Buick.

It is unclear what let up to the shooting.

The shooting was investigated by the Denver police and the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office.
