15-Year-Old Boy Charged In Fatal Shooting

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (AP) — Mesa County authorities have arrested a 15-year-old boy in the shooting death of another 15-year-old over the weekend.

The Daily Sentinel reports the boy faces a felony count of manslaughter and two misdemeanor charges. His arrest was announced Wednesday.

The victim, Brandon Crawford, died Sunday of a single gunshot wound to the chest.

Multiple people were reportedly inside a home at the time of the shooting, and The Denver Post reports that, according to court records, they were drinking alcohol and smoking marijuana before the accidental shooting.

Authorities on Monday had indicated there was no evidence of "malicious" intent by the shooter and characterized it as an "isolated incident."

Investigators say the shooter told them he carried the .22-caliber revolver for protection.
