Zion Business 'Waging Peace' With Local Mosque
(CBS) -- A Muslim community in Zion, is giving thanks after finding a note on the doorstep of the mosque yesterday.
"It was really, really nice and refreshing to see that someone else--and this was a business, a local business--take the initiative and reach out to us," said Tayyib Rashid of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community in Zion.
The note found on the doorstep of the mosque said:
"You are cherished members of our community, and will always be welcomed into our store. Donald Trump is an idiot. Your friends at Zion Cyclery."
Following the terror attack that killed 14 people in San Bernardino, Calif., GOP presidential candidate Trump proposed a temporary ban on Muslims entering the United States.
"Some people thought [the note] was a bad idea," said Chris Daisy, the owner of Zion Cyclery.
"I kind of thought that walking up to a mosque right now, I frankly felt safer than I'm sure a lot of Muslim people would feel walking into a church."
He says he doesn't know anyone at the mosque and just felt like it was something he wanted to do.
"I was just waging peace," he tells WBBM.
WBBM first learned about the note after the mosque posted something on Twitter.
The mosque has now brought him cookies, a plant and a card.
