Wrong-way driver causes deadly crash on I-55 in Will County
WILMINGTON TOWNSHIP, Ill. (CBS) -- A couple was killed in a wrong-way crash on Interstate 55 in Will County Tuesday night.
Police said a wrong-way in a black Ford F-150 driver went northbound in the southbound lanes near Lorenzo Road and mile marker 238, striking a light-colored GMC Yukon head-on and killing a man and woman people in the GMC.
Police said there were two cars and two semi-trucks involved in the crash.
The Will County Coroner's Office identified the two people killed as Ronald Dube, 35, and Kelly Quinlan-Dube, 34, both of Emington, Illinois in Livingston County. They were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash at 2:50 a.m.
Illinois State Police say three children in the Yukon were transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The wrong way driver in the black Ford F-150 was also taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Four additional people were taken to local hospitals, including the wrong-way driver. One person is in critical condition and three others are in serious condition.
A GoFundMe has been set up to help cover funeral expenses for the couple who were killed - and any additional medical care or living expenses, their children may need.
Police say the cause of the crash remains under investigation. The Will County Coroner's office says a final cause of death for the couple is still pending, as they await police, toxicology, external, and autopsy reports to be completed in the case.
