Woman's Body Found In Suitcase In Roseland
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A woman's body was discovered stuffed inside a suitcase found in an alley in Roseland on Sunday.
The red suitcase was found in an alley in the 300 block of West 115th Street, not far from the sidewalk, next to a trash can, around 2 p.m. Sunday.
Neighborhood children discovered the suitcase, and at first thought nothing of it, until a group of teenagers decided to open it.
"All the little kids was playing with it, and they told my nephew to open it, but he didn't. He, like, looked, and when he peeked, he saw a leg," Coriana Kizer said.
Police have not released much information about the case, but witnesses said the woman appeared to be in her 20s.
"Out here, everybody gets shot. We're used to people getting shot and killed, but somebody being in a suitcase?" Kizer said.
One man, who asked to remain anonymous, said the suitcase was sitting in the alley for at least two days.
"I went through the alley yesterday, and seen a red suitcase, but I just thought somebody had thrown the suitcase away. I didn't know there was anything in it," he said.
The Cook County Medical Examiner's office said an autopsy would be performed Monday. The victim's identity has not yet been released.
