Woman Stabbed During Robbery In Morton Grove

MORTON GROVE (CBS) -- A woman was stabbed Sunday night during a robbery in north suburban Morton Grove.

The 28-year old woman from neighboring Golf had been driving eastbound on Beckwith when a man began flashing his headlights at her and she pulled over at Lehigh, according to Morton Grove police.

When the man told her she had a flat tire….she got out of the car….and that's when the man stabbed her in her left side and took cash from her.

The woman was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge where she was treated and released.

The robber is described as a man of Middle Eastern or Indian descent, thought to be in his 20s, between 5-foot-6 and 5-foot-8, with a thin build, police said.

He was wearing a black hat, grey sweater and ripped blue jeans and may have been driving a four-door black Buick.

Sources say the woman was at a Walgreens in the 9300 block of Waukegan Road shortly before the attack. Police are trying to secure surveillance video in the hopes of tracking down the assailant.

Long-time Morton Grovers are concerned.

"What is going on here? We can't even walk the streets sometimes even the nicest areas, and we have problems today so it is a little scary," said Morton Grove resident Ross Emery.

Jennifer Wielgus walks in the area and was stunned to learn of the crime.

"I mean I grew up here, I spent 22 years of life here and I honestly cannot remember one time feeling afraid or feeling like I might be in danger," she said.

Morton Grove's village clerk, Ed Ramos, had said police told him it may have been a domestic situation, but police tell Newsradio there's no indication of that.
