Woman Killed, Man Critically Wounded In Gary Shooting

(STMW) -- A woman was killed and a man was critically wounded in a shooting Saturday night in northwest Indiana.

The shooting happened in the 1800 block of East 20th Court about 6 p.m., Gary Police Sgt. Thomas Decanter said.

A 38-year-old woman, identified as Tiffany Murphy, was taken to Methodist Hospital Northlake by people at the scene, Decanter said.

Murphy, who lived on the block where she was shot, was pronounced dead at the hospital at 6:20 a.m., according to the Lake County (Ind.) coroner's office.

A 51-year-old man was also shot and remains in critical condition at the hospital, Decanter said.

No one is in custody and the case is under investigation, Decanter said. Anyone with information is asked to call the Violent Crime Unit at (219) 881-1210.
